Oronoco Bay

I painted this little picture of Oronoco Bay in Old Town Alexandria this morning in my plein air class. It was a gray day and we thought it might rain, but luckily the weather held up. Oil on board, 6" x 8".

WIP: Walnut Tree

At least, I think it's a walnut tree. Started this morning at River Farm in Alexandria (an estate once owned by George Washington). Yeah, it's kind of dark -- I haven't put the lighter colors in yet, and they're definitely needed for the sunny effect. Comments welcomd, along with ideas on how to get the bugs off. Ah, the perils of working outdoors. Note to self: Next time, find a spot where I don't ahve to stand in the sun for three hours. (me: But it was a nice view!)

Here's a picture of the site, with my fellow classmates. As you can see, painting is largely make believe -- sometimes you have to pretend things aren't there at all. :) That's my painting, in its early stages, in the bottom right corner.
