Life Drawing #1

Went to a life drawing class for the first time in about nine years. It took awhile to warm up, and my old proportion issues are still there, but I think I got something decent. This drawing was done in charcoal and took about 45 minutes. Comments welcome.

I think it's wonderful. The only critique that I would make is that I don't understand the shadow on the shoulder, that sort of darker T-shape with a lighter patch near the underarm. I'm having a hard time picturing the light source that would make a shadow like that.

Be careful when you post sexy-ass drawings like that on the internet, you never know what kind of illiterate lust you may inspire (example above).

That's NICE. This class is payin' off, eh? It's really good. I don't know ALL that much about art, but... uh... I can stare at it for a long time and not get bored. That's a good thing, right?

Oh, and tell dawnwitch to get an imagination. That light patch in the underarm? That's a reflection from the candle lying just out of frame on the floor, lit by her strapping young boyfriend who then went to the kitchen to scoop up some uber-chocolate ice cream for the both of them on this lazy Sunday morning.

One bowl with two spoons to share as they revel in the memory of last night's activities, read the Sunday paper, and plan the rest of their lives together.

But as he returns to the bedroom of their dimly lit apartment, she gazes out the window at gathering stormclouds, and he pauses in the doorway to stare in awe at the tender grace of her young frame glowing in the morning (and candle)light.

I especially love the back-fat ripple.

I did not realize that you had gotten back into drawing/painting. That is really awesome and it seems that your skills are starting to come back to you. I can't really critique this picture... but I will have to keep an eye to see what other pictures you produce. It's awesome that you are pursuing this...
