Gimmelwald pt 5

OK, it's taking longer than I thought, but, it's a good thing to slow down and do it right.

Gimmelwald pt 4

The current stage of progress. I added green to the mountains and brightened the foreground to give it better dimensionality. Details will be added back to the foreground later. I still need to complete the distant mountains and push them back further. Comments welcome.

Gimmelwald pt 3

Did more work on the hillside and mountains. I will need to ask my teacher for help on the distant mountains, I think. Not happy with some of the highlights on the trees, but I'll work on that this weekend.

What I did on my Spring Vacation

Just got back from spending my birthday weekend in Melbourne Beach, FL, with a bunch of friends. Had a wonderful time and a great birthday. I did these two sketches after running out of reading material. The first is the view off the balcony, and the second is a drawing of some small objects I found at low tide. Hope you enjoy.

WIP: Gimmelwald

This is my first oil landscape. It's still a work in progress, of course. This is my underpainting, which I did in Burnt Umber. I've included the reference photo, which I took in Gimmelwald, Switzerland in 1991. I had to add to the bottom of the image since the aspect ratio of the photo and the canvas aren't the same. Comments welcome, as usual.

Finished. I think.

Three Amigos

This is a work in progress, which gave me huge headaches when I first started it. I think I like it now. Still needs work on the background. Oil, 12" x 16".
